So, I have a rather large text string, that includes a good amount of video attachments on my phone, and i want to save it to my computer, both to save space and because i'm probably gonna have to get a new phone. Its an IPhone 4s. I have tried 2 windows programs that supposedly work to help me back it up, one includes the option of recovering deleted data and saving it. however it was completely inaccessible with jaws. the other said i needed to contact someone about some .net framework, which i don't have, to run the thing. Does anyone know of a good accessible way for me to backup this string onto my computer? Thanks!
Hi,
Would an iTunes backup work for you? I don't know how easy it would be to
view your texts on anything other than a restored iDevice doing this though.
If you backup your phone using iTunes to your computer it saves all the data on the phone and settings.
Do you understand how this is done?
Next, if you have email setup, send your text messages to yourself with email if you want to see them.
When you get your new phone, you restore the backup from your computer to your new phone, and all your data is there.
Also, dropbox is really easy to use. You install the app, and after you set it up, dropbox ask if you want all your pictures and such in your box. You agree, and it uploads.
You have the dotframer, you just probably need an updated version.
Most times when you need it the program you are installing will supply it, but if not, search for it directly on the Microsoft website.
However, you don't need all these programs. Just the ones you have with aception of Dropbox, if you decide to go that way.
iTunes is the best, and your email.
I had tried to download ITunes on my computer, but i had trouble with it and jaws, so i don't have it. and i've never really used it that much. If I were to use dropbox, can I pick the data to upload, or will it only give me the option of uploading everything I have? Will it also upload something that might have accidentally gotten deleted?
No, Dropbox will be limited to your pictures mainly. Anything else you have to send to it.
iTunes really works well and is your best solution for backing up everything.
Call your phone company and explain your issue. See if going in to a store, they will help you back your data up.
You might have to pay a bit, but they can transfer it all to your new phone.
Nic, iTunes is your best option. The current version of iTunes is workable with jaws 11 and above. You really no need to do much on your iTunes for windows, just plug the phone on, select backup, and let it runs until 100%. Depends on what size iphone4s you have, as to how long it might take. The advantage of backing up using itunes also is that assuming you going to have a new iphone, you can choose to restore your phone to the previous setting from your backup with everything intact. If your data is not more than 5gb, you can also use iCloud to backup, and restore from it as well. My suggestion for you is to backing up using iTunes on the computer, then to do another backup using iCloud. All your data, include vedeos, photos, texts, emails, you name it, will be there. Problem with dropbox is it will do photos and vedeos from your phone's Camera, and thats all about it really. Also, with iTunes, you can choose the backup to be incripted, so, no one else can access the data but you.
He doesn't know how though. I think the best solution will be to get his phone company to do this for him.
I thought about another way.
If you go and get your new phone from the Apple store, they'll help you with this as well.
I'd put some time in to figuring out why iTunes doesn't work for you, because backingup to it and as the poster before me says to iCloud are really helpful if you should lose your phone, or it gets broken or stops working for some reason.
I have done a board on how to use iTunes. Maybe give that a read.
